BRANDON – Frances L. Lynch, 95, died Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Rock Ridge Residential Care in Shellsburg.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the Brandon United Methodist Church with Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Cremation will take place following the funeral service, and committal services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Bear Creek Cemetery in rural Vinton.
Frances was born February 8, 1920, in Adams County, Colorado, the daughter of Bud and Martha Murphy Kinzie. She graduated from Douds-Leando Consolidated School in 1937 and went on to attend Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and AIB College of Business in Des Moines.
In 1940, Frances was united in marriage with Stanley C. Crawford. He lost his life during the Battle of Corregidor during WWII in the Philippines. In 1946, she was united in marriage with Anthony W. Lynch. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in banks throughout much of her life.
Frances was very active in her church and community. She was a lifelong member of the Brandon United Methodist Church. For many years she was a member of Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Women; Vinton’s VFW Post 8884 Ladies Auxiliary; the American Legion Auxiliary; the Red Hat Society and Historical Society of Brandon; and she was a lifetime member of the Gold Star Wives of America.
Frances loved her church, and she also loved children. She was a foster parent to many children over the years. She loved people and had many, many friends, and she also loved to travel. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and reading.
Frances is survived by her children, Dennis Crawford Lynch of Mesa, AZ; Patricia Lynch of Vinton; and Charles Lynch of Mt. Auburn; foster daughter Rebecca McGarvey of Hudson; 7 grandchildren: Anna Forristall, Kevin (Patty) and Sean Lynch, Brian Schlief, Scott (Sheryl) Lynch, Emily Parker and Tony Lynch; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; two sons, Timothy and Michael Lynch; two foster daughters, Diana and Debbie; two brothers and one sister.
A memorial fund has been established.
