VINTON – Adabell Roster, 96, died Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with James E. Chalmers officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Vinton.
Adabell was born September 14, 1918, in rural Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Monroe and Effie Mae Burk Bates. She attended Sandburr country school in rural Vinton.
On September 16, 1935, Adabell was united in marriage with Paul Christian Roster in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1978.
Adabell worked as a homemaker, raising her five children. She enjoyed gardening and grew enough produce, which she canned, to feed her family throughout the year. She baby-sat when she moved into town. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and caring for her family. She led by example.
Adabell is survived by two sons, Larry (Bonnie) and Gary Irvin Roster, both of Vinton; two daughters: Lillian (Lyle) Geater of Vinton and Delores (John) Anders of Dysart; one sister, Viola McNeill of Vinton; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Vivian Graveman; and one sister, Lavonne Lippelgose.
A memorial fund has been established.
