Lloyd Franklin Spratte was born on July 21, 1928, near Brandon, Iowa, the son of John and Sylvia (Naylor) Spratte.

He attended country schools in east central Iowa through the eighth grade, Mount Auburn School from ninth through 11th grade and graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton.

Lloyd served his country in the United States Marines from 1949 to 1952, during the Korean conflict. His tour of duty also included teaching auto-diesel mechanics at the Marine Corps Institute in Washington, D.C. He was employed by Rochester Dairy from 1953 to 1962 as a maintenance mechanic. In 1962, he began working for IBM as a welder and in the maintenance department, retiring in 1987. Lloyd's employment also included teaching welding at the vocational college in Rochester and raising beef cattle and hogs.

Lloyd married Pauline Stark in 1950. She passed away in 1986. On March 27, 1988, Lloyd was united in marriage to Loraine Stewart Nee Zempel at the Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Lloyd died at the age of 86 at his home in Vinton on Thursday, April 2, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and two sisters, Frances Spratte and Lois Metsale. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Loraine, of Vinton; a daughter, Kay (Stephen) Spratte Lennignton, of Goshen, Ky.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, twin boys; and two brothers, John Spratte, of Littleton, Colo., and William Spratte, of Marion, Iowa.

A eulogy service was held at Healy Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester on Friday, April 10, 2015, and burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories Funeral Home in Waterloo, Iowa, handled the services. Online condolences may be left at www.overtonservice.com.
