ATKINS:

Leroy Allen Kreutner, 68, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Atkins, departed this life on October 17, 2014 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery near Atkins. Visitation will also be held at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The family requests any memorials be given to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Building Fund in Atkins.

Leroy was born January 6, 1946 in Vinton, the son of Bernard F. and Marie (Bruch) Kreutner and lived most of his life in Atkins. He was a life long member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins and attended St. Stephen's Lutheran School and then graduated in 1964 from the Norway High School. Leroy retired from Fleck Sales in Cedar Rapids after twenty-five years and later worked part-time at the Stoney Point YMCA as a front desk attendant for nine years.

All who met him came to enjoy his sense of humor and friendship. Leroy had a multitude of friends, and was always ready to help in any way he could, was very generous with his time and would always lend a hand. Leroy was of large stature with an infectious sense of humor. Once when approached by a total stranger who had told him, "if you weren't so big I'd fight you"--Leroy's response was "I could stand in a hole for you".

He touched many lives by the kind, loving life he lived. He made sure to remember family and friends' birthdays or anniversaries with a card that he had made himself on his computer and gave it that personal touch, "Made by Leroy"

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Michael. He is survived by his brothers, David (Bernice) of Portola Valley, CA, Loren of Port Angeles, WA, Jim (Christine) of Cedar Rapids, Wayne (Peg Cretin) of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Jeanne (Murray) Pommier of Bloomington, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, and to Pastor Douglas Woltemath of St. Stephen's in Atkins.
