CEDAR RAPIDS:
Shirley A. Fennern, 76, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Keystone and Vinton, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014 at King Of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Mark Halvorson officiating. Interment will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Keystone Cemetery in Keystone, Iowa. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 4 to 7 p.m., on Friday. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Shirley was born June 12, 1938 in Cedar Rapids to Waldo and Elfrieda (Buhr) Dunker. Following graduation from high school she received her Nursing Degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids. She practiced her profession at the Vinton Lutheran Home, Evergreen Estates and Hiawatha Care Center. She retired in 2010.
On October 6, 1956 she was united in marriage to Marvin C. Fennern at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2000.
Shirley was a member of King Of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and possessed a deep and abiding faith. She enjoyed growing and planting dish gardens, and stamping and making greeting cards.
Her memory will be cherished by her children, Brian and his significant other, Linda Maholland of Bartlesville, OK; and Lynne Simpson of Powder Spring, GA; her grandchildren, Brandon, Shaina and Trey; and great grandchildren, A.J., and Brianna.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Dunker.
