Obituaries : Bill Hilliard

DRAKESVILLE -- William E. “Bill” Hilliard, 86, of Drakesville, died August 3, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born April 27, 1927 in Wayne County, Iowa to Otto and Eva Showalter Hilliard. He married Aida Mae Gardner June 14, 1947 in Kansas. She preceded him in death August 29, 2012. Bill served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked at the Rock Island Railroad as a signal maintainer.

He is survived by a son, Bill (Melissa Archer) Hilliard Jr. of Ottumwa, Iowa; three daughters, Barbara Ann (Denny) Van DeVenter of Vinton, Iowa, Dianna Kay (Larry) DeGroot of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sherrie (Richard) Ritze of Missouri; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother; and a sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister.

Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 4-6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. The body has been cremated and no services are planned.
