VINTON – Lorena C Swanson, 92, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Rev. Lori Robinson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 2, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.

Lorena was born December 1, 1920, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Mary Jane Cram Means. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1938.

In 1939, Lorena was united in marriage with Melvin Ludden. He preceded her in death in 1959. On September 23, 1961, Lorena married Burland Swanson in Vinton.

Lorena worked as a homemaker. She was a past member of the Atkins Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Vinton Women’s Club. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, playing Bridge and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a descendant of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Lorena is survived by her husband, Burland Swanson of Vinton; one son, James Edward (Jodene) Ludden of Vinton; three daughters: Melva Jean Marovec and friend George Hand and Mary Jo (Bill) Guider, all of Vinton; and Sue (Scott) Dunkel of Newhall; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Melvin Ludden; one sister, Virginia Lamprecht; and brother-in-law Wilbert Lamprecht.

A memorial fund has been established.
