Both contests were close, but Alex Pladsen and Bud Maynard won the first hot dog eating events at Party in the Park.

Unlike the more highly-publicized contests where contestants eat as many hot dogs as possible, this contest only required eating one. The 18 contestants in youth and adult categories each tried to be the first to consume and swallow a foot-long, inch-thick hot dog, complete with bun, ketchup and mustard.

One of the participants in the adult event was Tony Ramos, the University of Iowa Wrestler who placed second in the NCAA Championships earlier this year. Ramos has been working with area wrestlers, and had completed a practice session with young wrestlers Hunter and Jacob Worthen before accompanying them to Saturday's Party in the Park events.

LB July 2, 2013, 2:18 pm It would have been fun to know how many hot dogs the winners ate.
Editor\'s Note: 1 They had to eat it fast.
