On May 16, 2013 @ IVH The Shellsburg American Legion Riders of Post 166 purchased and delivered 15 32" televisions for the Iowa Veterans Home residents personal use. The Veterans Home is the largest nursing home facility in Iowa and possibly the 4th largest in America. This donation is possible through the annual Charity Ride held on the first Saturday in June. In the past they have donated to The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, The Honor Flight organization, The Iowa Veterans Home Canteen Fund, and many other worthy charities. They also participate in military funerals, welcome homes and send-offs. Present were ten of the Legion Riders of Post 166 The American Legion Department of Iowa Sgt. at Arms- Monte Railsback (not in photo), the Benton County Legion Commander Ron Vogt and Benton County Auxiliary President Rachel Pettit, The Sons of The American Legion of Iowa Detachment Commander-Mike Blanchard among others. Not all of the ALR 166 were able to attend.
