On Friday, May 3, the Vinton-Shellsburg High School Band and Choral programs participated in the annual IHSMA State Large Group Festival at West Delaware High School. The VSHS Concert Choir received a Division I rating for the first time since 2001 and for the 3rd time in school history. The VSHS Concert Band received a Division I rating for the 4th straight year. It is also the 4th straight year that the band department has earned Division I ratings at every IHSMA state event: Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Concert Band. Most impressive is that this is the first time in Vinton-Shellsburg School History that the band and the choir programs both received Division I ratings and unanimous Division I rating reviews from all IHSMA event judges.

VSHS Band Director Karl Smith stated, “I’m proud of our music students, both band and choir. The students and parents have worked so hard this year and have so much pride in our programs and its achievement of excellence. I am particularly happy for Mr. Mohlis and our choir students for earning their first Division I rating since 2001. It was a great night for our school district and extremely impressive by all involved.”
