We try hard here, at Vinton Today, to know what’s going on in our community before we see it on TV or some big city newspapers.
That’s why I was a bit concerned this morning to read on the Channel 7 web site about a couple in Vinton reporting that their cats were shot by someone using a pellet gun a few days ago.
I sent a message to the police chief, asking for more information.
Then I read the story again.
The Vinton in that story was Vinton, La. (Lousisiana), not Vinton, IA. The Channel 7 is KPLC, the NBC affiliate in southern Louisiana.
Vinton, Louisiana, has its beginnings when residents from our Vinton moved south. Several names of Vinton, La., streets, and several names in its history books honor the same people who were involved in the early history of our Vinton. See the history of Vinton, Louisiana HERE.
Vinton Daily
We were also surprised to see an online-newspaper called Vinton Daily, with a school district named Vinton with sports teams called Vikings. The Vinton School Board recently honored the Vikings basketball players for their conference championship season.
That web site, however, is in Vinton County, Ohio, and it’s the online version of the Vinton County Courier.
We, Vinton Today, are of course in Vinton, Iowa, and we still seem to be the only online-only newspaper in the state.
