Four people were arrested in Garrison, Benton County Iowa, Friday January 18, 2013 around 8:00 p.m.

 

The Benton Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls of a possible fight involving 10-12 individuals at the south edge of Garrison. 

 

As Deputies and Iowa State Troopers arrived on scene, it was reported that someone had taken a vehicle from 205 South Sycamore Street in Garrison. The vehicle was observed leaving the area and going down a nearby alley where it struck a telephone pedestal.

 

The driver was later identified as Cody Edward Hughes age 27 of Blairsville, Georgia.  Hughes reportedly returned to the area and was confronted by several people at the residence. During the altercation between parties, a 23 year old female from the Garrison area was struck in with a multipurpose tool causing a minor injury to the neck area. A larger knife was than displayed by Hughes. Individuals at the scene reportedly wrestled Hughes to the ground when he came towards the crowd taking the knife from him. 

 

During the altercation, Elizabeth Ann Duffer apparently walked up to the scene and began screaming and hollering profanity at the citizens at the residence. She was subsequently charged.  

 

Sonya Marie Rambo age 23 from Garrison also drove up to the scene and got out of her vehicle and started screaming and yelling profanity also at the citizens. She also was subsequently charged.  

A fourth person Joseph Christian Duffer age 29 of Garrison was also arrested at the scene.

ARRESTED - Name: HUGHES, CODY EDWARD   Sex: M   Age: 27    

 

Charge: 716.4 CRIMINAL MISCHIEF 2ND DEGREE (CLASS D FELONY)    

 

Charge: 708.3 ASSAULT WHILE PARTICIPATING IN A FELONY (CLASS D FELONY)    

 

Charge: 714.7 OPERATING A VEHICLE WITHOUT OWNERS CONSENT (AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOR)   

 

Charge: 708.8 GOING ARMED WITH INTENT (CLASS D FELONY)  Date: 01/18/2013   

 

Sonya Marie Rambo, Elizabeth Ann Duffer, and Joseph Christian Duffer were all release the next day with a promise to appear. Elizabeth Ann Duffer was transported to the Iowa County Jail on a warrant for failure to appear on a prior non-related charge in Iowa County. Cody Edward Hughes is being held in the Benton County Correctional Facility under a $5000.00 cash only bond.
