June 2012 saw Vinton lose a piece of his history. The silos of the former Vinton Popcorn facility were removed.

Lt. Dan Greaser,a 2005 Vinton-Shellsburg graduate, returned home from Afghanistan, where he earned the Bronze Star Medal.

Another generation of soldiers received honor when a few Vinton area World War II veterans joined the most recent Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

The Vinton-Shellsburg School Board voted to allow the return of the VSHS Voyagers Dance Team, which had been eliminated two years earlier due to budget cuts. 

Vocal Trash was the featured entertainment for Party in the Park; the Texas musicians used a variety of recycled instruments during their show. 

A Vinton man and few others from Benton County were among the "Shipping 20" at Quaker Oats who shared a large Powerball lottery jackpot.
