The annual Vinton-Shellburg Veterans Day ceremony honored local veterans for their service to America, and also offer a special tribute to veteran and 2004 graduate Dan Flaugh.
The student body raised $1,700 to present to the Flaugh family to pass on to the Wounded Warrior Project. The recently Flaughless 5K raised $10,000 for that group which helps veterans from recent wars. Dan's brother, Ryan, spoke to the students about Dan's life and service, and about the importance of organizations like Wounded Warrior Project who help veterans returning from war.
The veterans who attended the ceremony briefly introduced themselves and told where and when they had served. The White Table ceremony honoring those who served and also those who have died was also part of the event again this year.
The ceremonty also included the following songs:
I Love My Country: Kindergarten, First and Second Grades
In Flanders Field: VSHS Concert Choir
A Grateful Nation: Fourth and Fifth Grade.
Homeland: 8th Grade and VSHS Concert Choir
