The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department Farmer’s market season will come to a close on Thursday, September 27th. The VPRD is very pleased with another great season at the market with special thanks to Bob Moen and Brian Trester for their support opening the Rail Road Depot each week.
The VPRD is very thankful for all of the great vendors that participated this season and of course to all of you that came out weekly to support those vendors. The market was a lot of fun and always a great social atmosphere for all of us that were there for the past eighteen weeks. We had some great times with different special events throughout the year starting with the Schmidt Family Band to announcing our balloon launch winners this coming Thursday on the final night.
Speaking of the Balloon Launch winners, we did have 2 cards returned from our 102 balloons that left the market on June 7th. The cards were returned from Tennessee and North Carolina. That may not seem like a lot but really it is when you consider all of the places that card could land between here and China. The winners will be announced next Thursday Night, so if you launched a balloon, you may want to be present to see if you are a winner.
We will also be doing our Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest next Thursday from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. This is a chance for kids and adults to show off their spitting talent or just have a good time. Special thanks to A & L Melons for the watermelon for the event.
Winners will receive some nice goodies from the Parks & Recreation Department and those that sent the cards back in will also be mailed some treasures from the market.
If you have any questions about the market or are interested in becoming a vendor for next year, contact the VPRD at 472-4164. You can also visit our website at vprdzone.com for weekly activities and vendor registration forms.
