Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz announced today the creation of the "Vote in Honor of a Veteran" program. The program is designed to honor the sacrifices that veterans have made throughout history to protect our freedoms, including the sacred right to vote. Participants may register at the Iowa Secretary of State's website, www.sos.iowa.gov and are able to leave a message or written tribute for veterans or active-duty military personnel.

"Like many Iowans, I am humbled by the sacrifices that veterans have made for our country throughout history. Many of us have close family members and friends who have served in past conflicts, or are currently serving in the military. Exercising your right to vote is a simple yet powerful way for any citizen to honor a veteran, and I was pleased to launch Iowa's "Vote in Honor of a Veteran" program at the Memorial Day services at Camp Dodge. I encourage all Iowans to visit the website and post a personal message or tribute to a veteran today," said Secretary Schultz.

Participants who register will also receive a special lapel pin, and are encouraged to wear the pin on Election Day this November.

Secretary of State Matt Schultz will be traveling around the state in the coming weeks, speaking to veterans in an effort to increase awareness and participation in the program, as well as provide information on how technology will make voting easier this election cycle for men and women serving overseas.
