The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters will be winding up their regular trap shooting season tomorrow, hosting AGWSR at the Red Cedar Izaak Walton league starting at 8:30 am.    The Red Cedar Shooters are currently ranked 15th in the State, out of 72 schools participating in the league.  Iowa DNR Shooting Sports currently has 1,772 individual shooters in the program statewide.
 
The Red Cedar Shooters participated in 2 Invitational meets at the Otter Creek Sportsman’s Club last weekend.  The team tied for 3rd place in the Xavier Invitational, and had 3 personal bests for the event:  Logan Salger shot a 42/50, Hunter Vogt shot a 40/50 and Tiffany Auen shot a 25/50.
 
The afternoon Invitational was hosted by Cedar Rapids Kennedy, and 7 personal bests for the season were turned in by the Red Cedar Shooters:  Wyatt Lebeda shot a 50 straight in the afternoon meet, and was in a 3-way shoot-off for Male Top Scorer with 2 others who also shot a 50.  In the shoot-off, Wyatt came in 2nd place in the top male shooter standings.
 
 
Other “personal bests” for the afternoon meet:  Drake Tilson shot a 47/50; Caleb Svoboda shot a 46/50, which ties his personal best from other meets;  TIm Haerther shot a 41/50; Patrick Thomsen shot a 40/50; Nick Gardner shot a 39/50; and
Karissa Davis shot a 37/50.
 
Thursday May 24, the Solon Spartan’s Trap team hosted a make-up meet at the North Linn Fish and Game Club in Central City.  Eight Red Cedar Shooters who had missed at least 1 meet throughout the season participated in this competition, which was one of the windiest events the team has ever participated in.
 
Drake Tilson took the Top Male Shooter honors with a nearly perfect 49/50, including a 25 straight from the 16 yard line, finishing ahead of the #2 ranked shooter in the State in doing so.  Tiffany Auen turned in a personal best with a 26/50, earning her the Top Female Shooter honors for this meet.
 
The final event of the year for the team will be the Iowa High School Trap Shooting Championship at the Cedar Falls Gun Club on Saturday, June 2.
