The Vinton-Shellsburg High School Personal & Professional Communications class has conducted a cookie sales fund drive to raise awareness and donations for Saturday's Pedals for Progress Saturday drive.

The students have worked all term long on this service learning project where they researched third world countries, the needs that the people there have and how bikes provide a vital source of income, transportation and independence.

The students presented the project at the April V-S School Board meeting and informed the board of the progress they have made.  They also presented this information to the student body at a 9-12 grade assembly on May 8, placed posters in Tilford and the Middle School and included notes in Friday Folders.

These students then teamed with Marilyn Condry's Life Skills classes as they decorated sugar cookies and sold them to the student body and faculty raising an impressive $360.

This money will be used to help sponsor used bikes donated by the community on Saturday May 12th at St. Mary's Catholic Church from 9-noon.  These bikes will shipped to impoverished and third world countries around the word.  Teachers involved are: Aaron Zuspan, Marilyn Condry, Tammie Hanson and Eric Upmeyer.
