The drivers who compete on the dirt tracks in Vinton and other eastern Iowa cities showed off their shiny cars and new paint jobs during the annual car show on Sunday, before getting their vehicles dirty for the first time.
Hundreds filed through 1st Avenue, between 4th and 5th streets, looking at the cars, talking to some drivers and learning more about the vehicles.
This year, the sound of revving engines could be heard, not from the cars but from the RU Racing stock car racing simulator. Many lined up to pat $5 for a few minutes in the simulator, which uses a variety of movements and a computer monitor screen to give participants a taste of racing.
