Vinton resident Rose Huber is packing this week for her 11-month, 11-country mission trip. She leaves Friday.

Huber, the daughter of Jim and Connie Huber of rural Vinton, will visit Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Ukraine, Romania, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia, remaining one month in each nation.

Each participant in the World Race must raise $15,000 to cover the cost of their flights, meals, lodging and other expenses. Huber said she hoped to have $10,000 raised by Friday; she has approximately $1,250 more to raise to reach that goal. Those who would like to make a donation before she leaves can email her at rhuber403@gmail.com. There is also a donation page on her World Race Blog.  Huber and her family have held a garage sale, a dinner and other events to raise money.

Huber is a 2007 graduate of Vinton-Shellsburg, and has already traveled to several countries. She said the World Race is a chance to live in community with dozens of people in her age group in a variety of places throughout the world.

But the main reason for going she said, is helping people. Rose spent a couple of months before signing up for the journey thinking about why to do it.

"I want to serve people, and tell them about Christ," she said.
