Garrison Firefighters and First Responders backed their trucks into the Garrison Emergency Services Building the evening of Thursday, December 1.
After they were pulled or driven out of the wreckage of the building following the Derecho Wind Disaster at 5 am July 11 they have been housed in a machine shed owned by Terry Henkle, 1 mile northwest of Garrison. All of the trucks were damaged and are in various states of repair. Currently the Garrison Fire Department and First Responders have leased trucks from the Van Horne and Greeley Fire Departments to use while two of its trucks are in for repair.
“We are still a long way from full recovery, but having an enclosed and heated building that we can get our trucks into is a huge step in towards restoring our services,” said Garrison Fire Chief Steve Meyer.
Chief Meyer reports that some of the equipment was damaged or lost in the July 11 disaster has been replaced, but there is more that will need to be ordered once work on the Emergency Services Building is complete. Contractors are continuing their work on the station and have not provided an anticipated completion date.
