A Vinton farmer sustained some injuries in an accident that killed another driver north of Waterloo on Wednesday afternoon.

Garth Beatty, 70, was heading south on Highway 63, driving a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup truck that was pulling a trailer with a tractor on the trailer, when a 2008 Toyota Corolla pulled into his path at the intersection of Highway 63 and Black Hawk County Road C-57.

The Iowa State Patrol says that shortly before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Joseph Pink, 71, of Madison, Wis., was westbound on C-57 when he attempted to cross the roadway, running the stop sign. Beatty's pickup broadsided the Toyota; Pink was pronounced dead the hospital in Denver. Beatty was transported to Allen Hospital with apparently minor injuries.

     Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
