In 2003, Jeanne Mann went to an auction, and came home with a new hobby.

"I bought a cracker jar painted by Sally Ollinger at a benefit auction for the Vinton Palace," recalls Jeanne.

She was impressed by the unique beauty of that hand-painted item, and thought it might be fun to try it herself, even though she had never painted in her life.

Jeanne found out where Sally had taken art classes, and soon enrolled with teacher Anne Lukensmeyer.

Now, eight years later, Jeanne is selling her art work for the very first time.

Some plates and vases will be available at Clingman Pharmacy, where Jeanne will meet customers from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday during the Holiday Open House,

"I have made about 125 things so far, and all are numbered and signed," Jeanne said on Monday, as she delivered some items to Clingman's.

"I don't do this for monetary gain. I like the way it makes me feel when I paint. On my worst days it takes away my worries."

In addition to painting, Jeanne also makes many of the items she paints in a kiln in her home.
