The Vinton Guild of Fine Arts has been planning the 2026  Community Mural, a public engagement project intended to involve artists and community members in together designing and producing the next mural in Vinton.    Local artists were invited to submit designs that depict or represent images from small town life in our community, including iconic and/or historical activities or locations, with the  hope that it will  inspire us to consider what it means to be a community, and what makes Vinton a special place to live.

In keeping with that theme, a design for the new mural was selected which depicts "Riverside Park: Past and Present".   Based on historical information, including news articles, the left half of the 8' x 16' mural imagines how the area may have looked around 1911, when "Warner Park" was established (named after the gentleman who sold the land to the city).    Baseball, picnics, foot races, and other activities were among those listed in the news announcing the annual picnic around that time.   The right half of the mural includes some of the current playground equipment at Riverside Park, along with a few activities one might see there today.   The mural was designed by Anita Gordon from Vinton and Sally Meyne from Van Horne.

All community members ages 14 and over are invited to help paint the 2026 Community Mural.

All skill levels are welcome - participants can work on whichever design elements they are most comfortable with.      Four painting sessions, with 2 additional times, have been scheduled in June.    Participants may sign up for one or all of the sessions.    There are a limited number of spots, which will fill up fast,  so anyone interested should be sure to sign up asap!   If you find the session(s) you want are full, feel free to email your interest to  vintonartguild@gmail.com  to get on a list to  help out with the next project.

Registration is required.    Participants may register  at  www.vintonart.com/mural2026.

Whether you’re an experienced artist or have never picked up a paintbrush before, you are invited to help create something meaningful for the entire community to enjoy for years to come.   All supplies, instruction, and guidance will be provided — just bring your enthusiasm and community spirit!
