On Wednesday, May 13th, members of the Vinton Shellsburg FFA chapter traveled to Blush Acres in Worthington to compete in the Northeast District horse judging contest. Team members attending included Jameson Demuth, Abby McKenna, Kirsten Pettit, and Kassidi Brunseen. The team earned a Bronze placing overall. Throughout the contest, members judged several classes of horses and answered questions about one of the classes. Contestants also gave oral reasons to defend their placings, identified different types of horse tack and equipment, and completed a general knowledge test covering horse science and industry topics. The contest allowed members to strengthen their evaluation, communication, and problem-solving skills while gaining more experience within the equine industry to explore different careers.
