While many are just beginning their spring planting, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter and Greenhouse Management class have already spent weeks preparing and managing their greenhouse. This year’s success has been guided by community member Matt Marovec, who plays a major role in teaching students proper plant care and helping keep daily greenhouse operations running smoothly.
The greenhouse was filled with a wide variety of plants, many of which are still looking for a home. From hot peppers and wax begonias to cactuses and hanging baskets, there was something for everyone. To better accommodate the community and allow customers more time to shop, the V-S FFA Plant Sale officially began on Friday, April 17th, a week earlier than the original date.
The greenhouse management class was mainly responsible for the duty of caring for the fundraiser. Members delegated chores like watering, transplanting, and sweeping while others coordinated events for the community, such as the greenhouse gift certificates that were just established this year. Ciara Dods, a member of the chapter and a student in the class, shared that “This class has truly worked so hard on growing plants and flowers for the Vinton and Shellsburg communities. I am proud of what we have accomplished together.â€
We want to thank everyone for coming out to support our chapter! If you are still interested in seeing what we still have to offer, keep up with our social media or email advisor Gabby Power at gabby.power@govikes.org to book an appointment.
