No two days look the same in the life of a deputy. Today was a reminder of that reality, and of how quickly situations can turn critical. After a passerby called 911 to report a dog that had fallen through the ice and was struggling to stay afloat, Deputy Fairbanks responded without hesitation.
Deputy Fairbanks quickly obtained an ice rescue suit and safely entered the icy pond to reach the dog. With calm, decisive action, he was able to pull the dog from the water and bring it to safety. Denny Gardemann, Fire Chief with Shellsburg Fire Department, assisted by securing a safety rope to ensure Deputy Fairbanks’ protection during the rescue.
Thanks to swift thinking, training, and teamwork, a life was saved today. This is what service looks like! Showing up, adapting, and doing whatever the moment demands. 🐾💙
