VGFA received 41 submissions of original artwork related to the themes in the book, Bewilderment, by Richard Powers, the focus of the Vinton Public Library's Big Read program this year. Cash prizes of up to $200 and gift baskets were awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place contest winners, as well as the winner of a “Popular Vote”, selected by over 150 community members who stopped by to vote on their favorite piece.
The contest winners were:
1st place - Michael Hook, for his piece entitled “Interstellar Flight”
2nd place – Dave Hobbs, for his drawing of the book's lead character drawing endangered species, “Robin's Ten Foot Drawing”
3rd place - Angie Wittmer, for her mixed media work, “Hands”
The Popular Vote winner was Amanda Stewart, for her colorful painting, “Art for the Endangered”.
The winners' artwork will now be displayed until January 30 at Pourville Art Studio & Gallery.
