Homecoming day began with High Five Friday at Tilfored Elementary.  The varsity team came out to welcome the students to school with high fives. See some awesome video clips here.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings gave their hometown crowd plenty to cheer about on Homecoming night, rolling past the Oelwein Huskies with a 49-6 victory on their home turf. The win brought the Vikings’ record to 3-3, while Oelwein continues to search for its first win of the season, now 0-6.

Vinton-Shellsburg’s offense hit its stride early and never looked back, putting up a season-high 49 points behind a balanced attack. The Vikings racked up 146 rushing yards and 182 yards through the air, including a 57-yard touchdown connection from quarterback Colt Koeppen to receiver Colson Chvala.

The Viking defense held firm, limiting Oelwein’s ground game to just 50 total rushing yards. Despite the pressure, Oelwein quarterback Maddox Pattison managed 229 passing yards on 15 completions, including the Huskies’ lone touchdown in the third quarter to sophomore Tyler Lucas.

The win marks the third straight victory for Vinton-Shellsburg over Oelwein. The Vikings will look to carry their momentum into next week’s matchup when they travel to face Dike-New Hartford on Friday at 7 p.m.

Angie Becker caught some awesome photos of the game that can be seen here.
