By Addyson Sweeney and Audrey Seiler

CPU FFA members have the opportunity each summer to participate in both the Benton and Linn county fairs. Members show livestock and help in the FFA learning barns. The fair is always a rewarding experience for participants as it helps them develop skills and get hands-on experience with agriculture.

At the Benton county fair, CPU FFA had members showing cattle, swine, and a rabbit. Through their 4-H programs, Addyson Sweeney won Grand champion breeding beef heifer as well as Senior Showmanship. And Avery Sweeney won Grand champion Home-Raised beef heifer. Leslie Johnson represented CPU FFA at the beef show as well and received Grand champion shorthorn, Grand champion purebred Simmital, 4th Overall home raised heifer, as well as 6th and 8th place for overall breeding heifer, and 5th overall commercial heifer. At the swine show, member Caleigh Lewis got Grand Champion market barrow and Reserve Overall market hog. She was also Champion for Winners Showmanship. Kinze Manson also received Champion Purebred market hog and was 5th Overall market hog. Lastly, Teagan Stadheim showed her rabbit and received a blue ribbon.

Members of CPU FFA also showcased their talent in static projects through their 4H programs. Emily Cue received 4 blue ribbons for her photography and many others had projects as well. Jordynn and Kaycey Dink exhibited sheep through 4-H as well. Members got involved by volunteering in the beef booth and the learning barns. They helped younger kids hold and learn about animals like chicks, ducks, rabbits, and piglets. They also helped them with fun crafts like painting pots. The fair is a great way for students to get involved in the community and volunteer.

At the Linn country fair, CPU FFA members exhibited cattle, Evie Kratz was 1st place for returning bucket bottle and reserve champion for bucket bottle. Emmalee Kratz was also elected as the Linn County Fair Queen. At the AgEd zone, members volunteered to help promote agriculture.

CPU FFA has a number of members that will be participating in many ways at the state fair in August. This includes showing swine, photography, and helping out as ushers. The chapter is proud to represent CPU in both counties and is excited to continue to make a positive influence through our work in leadership and the promotion of agriculture. All the exhibitors did an amazing job of showcasing these abilities throughout their time at the fair.
