It's no surprise to anyone in Vinton that the saturated ground leaves little room for more rain - and Saturday morning showed it again.

Overnight showers added another inch of rain to already soggy conditions in the area, according to the National Weather Service, which reported that much of Benton County has received more than 5 inches of rain over the past two weeks. With the ground fully saturated, water quickly pooled on city streets and low-lying areas.

Dean Vrba of Benton County Emergency Management shared photos of flooding around the area, including in the downtown area, following the storms. Fortunately, the water wasn't deep enough to cause serious issues like we've seen in the past. However, on Saturday morning, water covered several streets.

Minor flooding north of Vinton can be seen in ditches and fields. Some roads that are prone to flooding are covered in water. With more rain on Sunday morning it will continue.

Along the Mt. Auburn blacktop, one home can be seen surrounded by water. Saturday evening kayaks were being used for outdoor entertainment in what used to be the yard.

A heavy stream was covering the road on 22nd Ave. in the 5600 block, making it impassable. (This would be the Kirsten road off of the Mt. Auburn blacktop) The usual rock roads off of Highway 150 also saw flooding between Vinton and Brandon. Any road that is prone to flooding will be flooded this weekend.

Rain is expected to continue through Monday. Remember to use caution when driving through standing water, and avoid flooded areas if possible.
