Even though Mt. Auburn doesn't have a Legion Post in town any longer, that didn't dampen desire of the residents of the small town to remember the fallen. The Gingrich family accepted the challenge to have a service for families in the area to gather on Memorial Day..
At 10:00 a.m. the graves were decorated and a service followed at 10:30 a.m. "We have so much to be thankful for," they said as they took the opportunity to "climb that hill together in Mt. Auburn to thank God for our Freedom and our loved ones."
Pastor Andrew Happ opened the Memorial Day service at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery sharing a prayer with the local residents from Mt. Auburn and the surrounding area. The service included speakers Bart Gingrich and Colonel Garrett Gingrich, who shared the importance of remembering the fallen service members on this day.
The ceremony included area children who led in the Pledge of Allegiance, America the Beautiful, The Star Spangled Banner. Playing of Taps was by Chad Newton. The service concluded with a prayer. Around 100 or more people were in attendance at the service.
