News : Science, Soil, and Steel: VS FFA Competes in State CDEs

Jenna Grovert, Nora Grovert, and Katelyn Fleming participated in the State Agronomy CDE.

Ben McGowan, Wes McKenna, Andrew Allsup, and Ben Buhr participated in the State Ag Mechanics CDE.

Cole Birker, Zoey McClintock, Bri Dulin, and Bridgette Castle participated in the State Food Science CDE.

On Tuesday, May 20th, 11 members of the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter participated in the State Food Science, Agronomy, and Ag Mechanics Career Development Events. The State Food Science CDE consists of a Written Exam, Math Practicum, Food Safety and Quality Practicum, Customer Inquiry Practicum, Triangle Tests, Aroma Tests, and a Team Product Development Presentation.

The team of Zoey McClintock, Cole Birker, Bri Dulin, and Bridgette Castle received Silver.

The State Agronomy CDE consists of identifying Nutrient Deficiencies, Diseases, Insects and Grain Defects, Disease Identification and Diagnosis, Insect Identification, Grain Defects in Corn and Soybean, Seed, Plant, and Equipment Identification, and a Written Exam.

The team of Jenna Grovert, Nora Grovert, and Katelyn Fleming received Silver.

The State Ag Mechanics CDE demonstrates knowledge in Electrical Systems, Environmental/Natural Resource Systems, Machinery and Equipment Systems, Metals and Welding, Structural Systems.

The team of Andrew Allsup, Ben McGowan, Wes McKenna, and Ben Buhr received 7th place Gold.
