Center Point-Urbana's FFA is in its 2nd year. So far enrollment in the program has reached participation of 150 students in its Ag Programs. As part of the program, the organization is raising funds to construct a greenhouse.
Across the state of Iowa, there are 264 FFA chapters. Of that number, 61% of the groups have their own greenhouse, and CPU is raising funds to build their own.
A greenhouse benefits the student's education and the community they are in. It offers students hands-on learning, STEM education, Environmental Awareness and encourages community involvement.
As part of their fundraising effort, the FFA held a fundraiser on Friday night. They plan to construct a 24' X 60' building at a cost of $200,000. With more than 100 in attendance, CPU Alumni and supporters, pulled together and raised support toward the project. A total of $11,793.55 was raised through a dinner, dance, silent and live auction held at Kacena Farms.
To date, the group with the help of the community has raised nearly $187,000. They continue to fundraise and apply for grants to reach their goals to make this project a reality for the FFA students at CPU.
CPU FFA Alumni and Supporters have set up a 501(c)3 if you would like to donate toward their "Growing Forward" program.
