Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members showcased their skills and dedication at the Southwest Sub-District competitions, held at Hawkeye on Wednesday, February 19th. Competing in a variety of events, the chapter demonstrated strong performances, earning multiple top placements.
In Ag Broadcasting, Raine Wheeler secured a second-place gold rating, while Izzie Birker took first place in Ag Sales. The Chapter Program team, consisting of Will McKenna, Megan Schlitter, and the projectionist Eleanor Moen, also claimed a first-place finish. The Conduct of Meetings team, including Cole Birker, Zoey McClintock, Jenna Grovert, Nora Grovert, Jameson Demuth, Jonah Meyer, and Abby McKenna, delivered a strong performance and earned first place. In Creed Speaking, Katelyn Fleming impressed the judges and took home first place with a gold rating.
In the speaking events, Andrew Pingenot placed second in Extemporaneous Speaking, while Jazmyn Dods earned second place in Public Speaking. Alana Fleming excelled in Job Interview, securing a first-place finish. The Parliamentary Procedure team, made up of Ali Lutz, Levi Lutz, Kirsten Pettit, Ciara Dods, Kassidi Brunssen, and Leif Allen, delivered a strong showing and took first place in their event.
Additionally, several members participated in demonstrating their FFA knowledge through a quiz competition. In the Greenhand Quiz, Abby McKenna, Cole Birker, Zoey McClintock, Jenna Grovert, Jameson Demuth, and Nora Grovert placed gold, while Jonah Meyer placed silver. In the Chapter Quiz, Ciara Dods, Kirsten Pettit, Bri Dulin, Zane Helter, Sophia Newton, Ali Lutz, and Eleanor Moen received gold. Kassidi Brunssen, Raine Wheeler, Levi Lutz, Juliana Luis, Carlie Clark, and Kara Rollinger earned silver, and Steven Rogers and Landon Wygle placed bronze.
All of these members will compete again in their contests at the Northeast District FFA Convention on Saturday, March 8th at the Waterloo Career Center.
Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members worked hard to prepare for these competitions, and their efforts were reflected in their success.
