A Vinton man is in custody following a high-speed chase that ended in a vehicle rollover and fire in Riverside early Thursday morning.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the pursuit began shortly after 2:00 a.m. and reached speeds of up to 90 mph. The chase ended when the vehicle rolled over near 3184 Highway 22 in Riverside. The car caught fire but was later extinguished by emergency crews.
Authorities arrested 30-year-old Lance Degen of Vinton at the scene. Degen faces multiple charges, including eluding an officer at speeds more than 25 mph over the limit, a Class D felony, as well as operating while intoxicated (first offense), a Serious Misdemeanor, reckless driving, failure to yield to emergency vehicles, improper lane usage, failure to obey a traffic control device, open container, and failure to maintain or use a seatbelt.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office received assistance from the Ainsworth Fire Department, Ainsworth QRS and Rescue, and Moores Towing.
