A fire destroyed the home of Janet Kuper and her daughter Grace last night. At approximately 10:22 p.m. the Vinton Fire Department received the call. The apartment is located on K Ave. between Tootsie's and Beast and Bird on Highway 218. 

The Kuper Relief Fund has been set up at Farmers Bank to help the family.. If you would like to donate to the fund, you can simply pull up at the drive up and drop off a donation for the family.

The Vinton Fire Department was on the scene until about 2:30 a.m. The structure housed two apartments, laundry facility and office, The structure is a total loss. At this time there is no known cause for the fire. Assisting the Vinton Fire Department were Mt.Auburn, Garrison and Urbana Fire Departments.

Fire Destroys Kuper Family Home, Community Rallies in Support

A devastating fire destroyed the home of Janet Kuper and her daughter Grace late last night in Vinton. At approximately 10:22 p.m., the Vinton Fire Department responded to a call about a fire at an apartment building located on K Avenue, between Tootsie's and Beast and Bird on Highway 218.

The fire consumed the entire structure, which housed two apartments, a laundry facility, and an office. Despite the best efforts of the Vinton Fire Department and assistance from the Mt. Auburn, Garrison, and Urbana fire departments, the building was declared a total loss. Crews remained on the scene until about 2:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

In the wake of the tragedy, the community has come together to support Janet and Grace, who lost everything in the fire. Several avenues for donations have been established:

  • Kuper Relief Fund at Farmers Bank: Donations can be made by driving up to the bank and dropping off contributions designated for the Kuper family.
