The Garrison residents whose efforts to organize the annual Fun Day are "making history and don't even know it," said former Mayor Paul Schellhase.
Looking at the crowd of children playing games and adults browsing the vendor tables on Saturday, Schellhase said it's been a long time since there have been that many people at the park in Garrison. He recalled days when the park would be filled for softball games or waterball fights.
A poker run and car cruise were also among the events of the day. Proceeds from some of the activities will benefit the Garrison Park Fund. A dice roll for a chance to win $25,000 or a new Harley Davidson raised money for the Garrison Emergency Services Foundation.
A barbecue and dance ended the annual celebration, as Silverwood provided live music.
