At the Union Community School District ¢â‚¬â„¢s School Board Meeting, the Board voted to accept a contribution of $250,000 to name a new gymnasium in honor of Kate Craft.

Kate passed away in December 2023 at the tender age of 16. She valiantly fought a two year battle battle with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. The Craft family made the donation to honor their daughter a student at the school.

She was an honor student as well as a standout athlete in the sports of basketball, swimming, soccer, track and field. Kate ¢â‚¬â„¢s parents, Matt and Sarah Craft, wanted to use this opportunity to honor the passion she had for sports.

¢â‚¬Å“As per the agreement, the family is making a minimum $250,000 donation to be used for the naming rights to a new gym. One of the conditions is that it be a community gym that people can access more readily than they can the current school gym, ¢â‚¬ said Superintendent John Howard.

The proposed gym is included in a $20.5 million bond referendum Union School District voters will vote on in the November 5th election.

Should the referendum fail, School officials will continue to attempt to complete the project. ¢â‚¬Å“The Craft family has donated funds for something that is really needed in our community, ¢â‚¬ Howard said.
