Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter member Brody Waters made his way to Des Moines for the Global Youth Institute at the World Food Prize on October 24th. The World Food Prize was founded by Norman Borloug in 1986 to honor individuals who have contributed to improving the availability and quality of food worldwide.

In order for Brody to advance to the Global Youth Institute he had to submit an essay about food insecurities in another country. Brody wrote his essay in January and found out in September that he had advanced to the World Food Prize. His essay was about drought in the United Kingdom and how it has affected the crops and farmland along with their population.

"I was very surprised to find out that I was going to represent our school, and Iowa, at the World Food Prize," Brody said ecstatically. "I am grateful that I was able to experience this event and learn more about what happens around the world. I was able to meet people from Sweden, Korea, Honduras, and so many other places around the world."

As a result of his participation, Brody will receive scholarships to the Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter is so proud of Brody and what he has accomplished.
