It's that time of the year. The lights are pulled from the attic, the Christmas tree is up and the sibling rivalry kicks off. Well, not for everyone, but in Vinton it is! In a Facebook post, Kord Sellers poked at his brother Dakoda in a bit of Christmas fun.
He said in his post about his light display at 1307 B Ave. "Fun facts about the lights:
- There are about 2500 individual LEDs in my show, each fully and individually programmable.- The giant tree structure is 18' tall and custom fabricated with steel tubing.-The "screen" to the right is a group of 1200 lights spaced 1" apart.- This is run with a network cable from my computer to two controller boxes outside.- The programming software has several groups with fellow hobbyists willing to help out. The average song made from scratch on a larger display will have more than 100 hours of programming put into it.- My current show is around 20 songs played on a loop. I usually add songs to it throughout the season. Adding or moving lights requires about 10 minutes of additional programming per song."Sure he could have left it there, but noooo! As any good brother knows, you can't just leave it there. He added a scrolling marquee with the message that said, "My show is better than Dakoda Sellers'." Just to make it clear which you can see here.
Both brothers have light displays at their homes so check them out. Kord says that if you want to see the second best light display, THAT one is located at his brothers house located at 2108 W 4th St. in Vinton.
Be sure to tune in the radio when you pull up in front of the houses, there is a sign with the radio frequency 90.3 FM in front. If you're taking along the hot cocoa, DON'T sip it when you get to Dakoda's house, it could result in the inside of your car becoming chocolate-coated from the laughter! The songs will make you chuckle, at least it did for me.
While you're in the car, be sure to check out the HUGE display at 502 4th Ave. with the Dulin's. You will need to drive by this one slowly a couple of times! According to the four-year-old that rode with me, "They have EVERYTHING! Even the Minions, and Paw Patrol, and Santa Claus, and reindeer, and a really huge soldier and..." So check that one out!
All around town, lights can be seen. A large display is also on the corner lot adjacent to the Casey's on C Ave. Always beautifully done check it out. Or the Lutheran Home area has several displays.
Thank you to all of the Vinton residents who use your time and resources to bring the Christmas season in with the beauty and fun of the lights and displays. It does make the season much more enjoyable! Thanks also to Vinton Parks and Recreation for spurring the community on via the Deck the Halls contest!
If you want to take a road trip you can check out the Blue Creek Christmas, it's worth the drive! The lights begin at 5:30 p.m. each night and run through 11:00 p.m. This display is located between Walker and Center Point. Take Exit 35 off of I-380, go east through Center Point and it's roughly a mile outside of town. The address is 4942 Blue Creek Court, WALKER. Note that sometimes the GPS will change "court" to road, so beware of that.
The pictures never do these displays justice, so hop in the car this weekend, pile in the kids and have some fun exploring the town and country if you wish!
