On Thursday, November 02, 2023 at approximately 6:25 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the 2200 block Black Hawk-Buchanan Avenue, south of Jesup.

According to the investigation, a 2001 Dodge Ram operated by Dawson Brown, 19, of Jesup was traveling eastbound on Young Road when the driver lost control while traversing the curve northbound onto Black Hawk-Buchanan Avenue. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled multiple times.

Four passengers were ejected from the vehicle. Brown was transported to MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo with unspecified injuries. Dayton Wyckoff, 22, of Shellsburg, was airlifted from the scene and transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City with critical injuries. Keegan Shaffer, 21, of Shellsburg was transported to MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo with unspecified injuries. A 16-year-old juvenile and a 14-year-old juvenile were also transported to MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo with unspecified injuries.

This accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office, Jesup Police Department, Jesup Fire Department, Jesup Ambulance, Dunkerton Ambulance and AirCare Air Ambulance.
