News : Settlement reached in the Atkinson case against the county

In a document request by Vinton Today, the request for information on all settlements in the county since January of 2022, there was only one other case where the county settled.

Many of you have asked about an update on the case against the county concerning the September 5, 2022 employment application with Benton County for Roadside Manager and the decision not to hire Kevin Atkinson a military veteran for the position. Instead the county hired the grandson of Supervisor Rick Primmer, which went against the nepotism clause in the county handbook.

This was the only other case where the county made a settlement since  January of last year.

In the case of Kevin Atkinson vs. Benton County, Benton County Board of Supervisors, Benton County Appointing Board, Benton County Hiring Committee and all members, the county agreed to pay the legal fees for Atkinson in the amount of $2,690.00.
