Tuesday, September 26 was a big day for Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members. 9 members signed up to attend Hawkeye Ag Day eager to learn more about different parts of agriculture. When the members made it to the event they were split up into groups and put into different stations covering various aspects of the field. Some of the stations included fire safety control, learning about a ruminant digestive system, and meat preparation safety. One of the hands-on activities that the members were able to take part in was learning how to figure corn yield. This entailed counting the rows and columns of an ear of corn and dividing by other averages found that day. By the end of the day the chapter members had been taught many useful things that they can use in the agriculture industry and learned more about their potential career options. All in all the chapter members came back feeling encouraged to achieve more in their agriculture classes.
