Each year chapters in the Northeast district send their new greenhands to learn about FFA from our state and district officers. This year on October 6th at Waverly-Shell Rock, they welcomed all of the new Greenhand FFA members in each chapter.
While at Waverly-Shell Rock on Friday, district and state officers led four interactive workshops for the FFA members. They played dodgeball, worked with others on their team-building skills, and talked about all the amazing contest opportunities they could do as a first-year member. The workshops facilitated were leadership-focused on the experiences that occur in the lives of beginning high school students.
One of the facilitators was the Northeast District FFA President, Annabelle Newton, and she stated, "Greenhand Fire Up provides a chance for first-year high school members to get a sneak peek of the opportunities that FFA holds, and is a conference for members to meet and interact with state and district officers." The officers prepared and facilitated workshops on authenticity, balancing priorities, communication, and how to have a little fun in all of their FFA opportunities. The goal was to engage FFA members in learning about the tools that would allow them to be successful in anything they are part of through FFA and beyond.
Overall, the Greenhands of Vinton-Shellsburg FFA thought it was a great time and had lots of fun meeting new people and getting a chance to learn new things about FFA! Thank you to everyone who could make this District Greenhand Fire Up possible!
