The Vinton Kiwanis held the annual Boomtown 5K Run/Walk and a 1 Mile Kid run/walk on August 26th. The race collected food donations for the Wesley United Methodist Church's food pantry with the help of the local Fareway Store and their employee Ryan Tresnak. Tresnak ran with a cart weighted down according to how many carts full of groceries which were donated before the race. In total, Tresnak pushed 120 pounds in his shopping cart along the 5K route.
The registration fees collected for the race and brought a total of $1,250 which was given to support the Vinton-Shellsburg Operation Backpack program. The program supplies students with food over the weekends during the school year.
At the check presentation were left to right: Dave Kelchen and Ryan Tresnak of Fareway, Tom Lindauer representing the Vinton Kiwanis, Kelcie Appleby, McKenna Kingsbury and Carmen Kenkle of Operation Backpack, and Barb Beau representing the Wesley United Methodist Church food pantry.
The Vinton Kiwanis also took a moment to thank Tresnak for his part in the race collecting additional food for the community.
