Thursday, September 14th, was a special day for some Vinton-Shellsburg chapter members. They woke up bright and early to attend Tri-State Dairy Foods and Dairy Cattle Judging in Calmar at the NICC Campus.

"I didn't feel as prepared as everyone else, but this was my second year doing this competition so when I got there I felt better," is how Braedon Hepker felt arriving at the competition. Once the members got inside they separated into their teams.

The Dairy Foods teams consisted of Carlie Clark, Rachel Rollinger, Brody Waters, Juliana Luis, Braedon Hepker, Kaden Kerkman, and Steven Rogers. The Dairy Cattle teams consisted of Wes McKenna, Cooper McClintock, Will McKenna, Andrew Pingenot, Sophia Newton, and Connor Bridgewater.

Andrew Pingenot received honors at the Dairy Cattle Contest by placing 3rd overall for the Tri-State contest and 1st at the District level. All things considered, Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members left feeling accomplished and learned a lot.
