News : Fareway Stores Join with the Vinton Kiwanis to provide food to kids

Fareway is getting in on the fun for this year's Kiwanis 5K. For every cart full of groceries donated to the Operation Backpack Program for kids program, Fareway's own Ryan will be running the race while push a shopping cart through the race.

When Ryan was a kid he went without a lot of food. It is a personal cause for him to help fight hunger in our community. So at our local Fareway there will be a shopping cart labeled in the front of the store. You can purchase select items to put in the cart and on race day. Ryan will be pushing the cart for the entire 5k.

There are three ways to donate: 1) purchase an item and have the cashier place it in the cart. 2) place an order online ($30 min order) and make a note for food donation cart. 3) sign up for the run HERE!
Come on by on the day of the run to cheer Ryan on!

For each cart full of groceries donated a cinder block will be placed in the cart of the runner adding extra weight to the challenge.

There is still time to sign up to join the Vinton Kiwanis Boomtown 5k run that will be held on August 27th starting at 8 a.m.
