General Mills is not interested in assisting. The Shellsburg Area Community Group (SACG) has not found a grant for this type of project. So, SACG is undertaking a community fundraiser to gather funds for the restoration. The Pearl Street owners want to see the mural preserved and will be tuck pointing the wall as the first step in the restoration. SACG has a bid from the "Wall Dogs", a company with expertise in restoring historic art. Donations of any amount will be appreciated and will be held in a dedicated bank account, set up for just this project. If for any reason, the project doesn't materialize, your donation will be returned to you. Your donation is tax deductible as it will go through SACG a non-profit organization. The goal is $15,000 to cover the cost of Wall Dogs. We're establishing three tiers of giving:Tier 1 - $1000 and overTier 2 - $500 to $999Tier 3 - Under 500Donations may be made by sending a check made to Shellsburg Mural Restoration and mailing it to SACG, PO Box 71, Shellsburg, IA 52332, or by donating online at GoFundMe. GoFundMe will send you a receipt for your files. For those donating by check, SACG will mail you an acknowledgement for your records. Donations will be recognized on the City of Shellsburg website and Facebook page, the SACG website and Facebook page and in the Shellsburg PRIDE. Further information is available on the SACG website. The Shellsburg community is seeking the public's help to preserve a downtown mural. The mural is in bad shape, but it is an important part of our downtown's history and culture, and we want to make sure it is saved.
