Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members spent many hours preparing for various summer competitions. Competitions took place at both Iowa State University and Kirkwood Community College in June. Iowa State competitions included State Ag Mechanics, State Food Science, and State Agronomy on Thursday, June 8th.
The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA State Ag Mechanics team consisting of Dallas Fairbanks, Jaice Tuttle, Wes McKenna, and Ben Buhr received a Silver rating.
Food Science consisting of Ryan Shipley, Megan Schlitter, Izzie Birker, and Juliana Luis received 6th Place Team Gold rating, with member Juliana Luis recognized at the 8th Place individual overall.
Agronomy consisting of Anabelle Hernandez, Cal Christenson, and Jerry Lee received a Bronze rating.
Kirkwood competitions included State Nursery Landscape, State Horse Judging, State Floriculture, and District Livestock Judging held on Tuesday, June 13th. The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA State Nursery.
Landscape team consisting of Juliana Luis, Will McKenna, Ben Buhr, and Andrew Allsup received 9th Place Team Silver rating.
The Horse Judging team of Alana Fleming, Laura Manning, and Carlie Clark received a Bronze rating.
The State Floriculture team of Paul Herger, Izzie Birker, Rachel Rollinger, and Megan Schlitter received 10th Place Team Gold rating. Paul Herger said, "I think we pulled together really well as a team and went out with a bang for my last FFA event."
District Livestock Judging participants included Andrew Pingenot, Cooper McClintock, Evan Lopata, Ryan Shipley, and Austin Noe. They received 1st Place Gold Team with Andrew Pingenot placing 1st individually and Cooper McClintock placed 5th individually. Congratulations to all of the many participants for their hard work and accomplishments!
